I recently had the opportunity to shoot a wedding for Wish Upon a Wedding, which is an organization that grants weddings to couples that are facing terminal illness or other serious life-altering circumstances. It was such a personally fulfilling experience, I wanted an opportunity to gift my services to another family.

This post is about my friend Christine’s brother, Sam. Why is he “our” brother? It’s because this could be any one of us or our relatives.

My friend Christine’s brother, Sam, was diagnosed with liver cancer for which he received a successful transplant in July of 2010. His remarkable recovery stunned everyone, including his doctors. Sadly, just 2 months ago, he was again diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, which has now metastasized to his new liver. This news comes at the heels of losing another brother to cancer just a few years ago. Sam began chemotherapy treatment to contain his aggressive cancer a week before these images were created.

Particularly heartbreaking for me is that Sam’s two children don’t know that their father is once again ill. Being a father myself, I can’t imagine the unthinkable and how sad this whole situation is.
